Sleman, Indonesia – 30 July 2026 – The Master of Communication Science (MIKOM) Program, Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Yogyakarta, has officially been awarded the "Excellent" (UNGGUL) Accreditation by the Independent Accreditation Agency for Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Public Administration, and Communication (LAMSPAK).
The accreditation was conferred pursuant to LAMSPAK Decree No. 213/AK.03.05/2026 concerning the Accreditation Status and Rating of the Master of Communication Science Program, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Yogyakarta, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, issued on 23 July 2026.
Dr. Edwi Arief Sosiawan, M.Si, Head of the Master of Communication Science Program, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to everyone who contributed to the successful accreditation process.
"This achievement reflects the collective commitment, dedication, and collaboration of our faculty members, administrative staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders. We sincerely thank all parties whose continuous support and trust have enabled the program to reach this important milestone," he stated.
Dr. Edwi further noted that this accomplishment reinforces the program's standing at the national level. The Master of Communication Science Program is currently the only master's program at UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta that holds both the national "Excellent" accreditation and international accreditation from FIBAA.
The program has also achieved several notable milestones. It was the first master's program at UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta to enroll international students and the first academic program within the university to be recognized as a host institution for scholarship recipients funded by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (formerly the Ministry of Communication and Informatics) and the Indonesian Education Scholarship (BPI), even before the university itself obtained institutional "Excellent" accreditation.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Dr. Susanta, M.Si., also welcomed the achievement with gratitude.
"In 2026, four academic programs within FISIP were submitted for accreditation through LAMSPAK. To date, the Business Administration Program and the Master of Communication Science Program have successfully obtained the 'Excellent' accreditation. Meanwhile, the International Relations and Public Relations programs are scheduled to undergo site assessments in August and September 2026," he said.
According to Dr. Susanta, the achievement reflects FISIP's unwavering commitment to fostering a sustainable quality assurance culture. Accreditation serves not only as formal recognition of academic excellence, institutional governance, research, and community engagement, but also as a catalyst for continuous improvement and stronger competitiveness at both the national and international levels.
The "Excellent" accreditation further strengthens the reputation of the Master of Communication Science Program as a leading graduate program committed to academic excellence, innovation, and the preparation of graduates with strong professional competence, integrity, and meaningful contributions to the advancement of communication scholarship and society.
